HISTORY

Presquile (French for “almost an island”) came into being in the 1950’s with the construction of the Cheneaux Dam about 10 km downstream. The dam did two things. First, it created Presquile Point by raising the water levels and creating the Peninsula. Secondly, the dam’s operating plan only allows for a very narrow water fluctuation range meaning there is no flooding and no low water.

VOYAGEUR BAY

This part of the Ottawa River is so named because Samuel De Champlain camped on the opposite shore in 1613. LOCATION

Presquile Point is located at 503 Rafting Road in the Township of Whitewater Region on the Ottawa River. The closest hamlet is Foresters Falls and an hour’s drive west of Kanata. Its located where the Ottawa River flows into Voyageur Bay on Rocher-Fendu Lake providing the best in both river and lake activities.

WORRY FREE REAL ESTATE

Presquile Point is located on Rocher-Fendu Lake or as Ottawa Power Generation calls it, the Cheneaux Forebay. That is extremely significant because it means that Presquile Point is on the only body of water from Mattawa to Montreal that CAN’T, WON’T flood. Not only is there no flooding, there is no low water and the water is controlled within a very small elevation range.

 

Although it’s called a lake, it’s actually a river with an imperceptible current which means ALMOST NO BUGS except for a very, very brief black fly season in May. The property is primarily sand with perfect drainage and no pools even in the rain for mosquitos to breed.

 

GEOLOGY

The geology of Presquile Point is an outcropping of Canadian Shield Granite 50’ high providing spectacular views and the remainder is all natural sand deposited in the last 10,000 years when all of the great lakes except Ontario drained through the Ottawa River.

RECREATION

Presquile Point is just downstream of the National Whitewater Park, home to Canada’s best rafting and kayaking and thousands of acres of trails.

ON SITE

On site is a natural beach for swimming and paddle sports. The forested area has perfect single-track mountain biking trails.
